PanKind, The Australian Pancreatic Cancer Foundation

PanKind, The Australian Pancreatic Cancer Foundation came to be after Avner Nahmani who was diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer in 2007 and passed away 13 months later in October 2008. Whilst facing up to the fact that survival is so low and that this disease is under-funded, under-researched and under the radar, Avner and his wife Caroline, had a dream to see future patients offered hope of better outcomes. It is the only charity in Australia focused exclusively on the disease and through community and corporate support has raised $6.5m for research. The sole purpose of the Foundation is to make survival possible and it has a vision to double the survival rate by 2020.

Cancer Australia

Cancer Australia was established by the Australian Government in 2006 to benefit all Australians affected by cancer, and their families and carers. Cancer Australia aims to reduce the impact of cancer, address disparities and improve outcomes for people affected by cancer by leading and coordinating national, evidence-based interventions across the continuum of care.

In March 2013, Rochelle Goulburn was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. From the date of Rochelle’s diagnosis and throughout her treatment, her husband, daughters and sisters, discovered that there was very little support for, and awareness of, pancreatic cancer. So, they have decided to do something about it, in the hopes that people going through what they experienced, don’t feel alone. They have made a personal commitment to get the world talking about pancreatic cancer.
